                               A sneak peek at Hildi Perez’s reading sessions has shown how shared reading, guided reading, differentiated instruction and assessments are basic components of her daily lessons. Formal and informal assessments play an integral role in her instructional decisions. She uses these assessments to compare a student’s strengths or weaknesses with her/his peers. Lesson Plan Critique

       As I read Carolyn Wilhelm’s lesson plan, numerous things came to mind. Firstly, I noticed the thought she put in to create her clear, well-structured lessons. In a series of four consecutive sessions, Ms. Wilhelm’s manages to portray the meaning of Found Poetry in a clear, systematic way. Her lessons are aligned with the five components of ELA standards; reading, writing, speaking/listening and language.       Ms. Wilhelm begins her lesson with reading a favorite book aloud to her students. She then encourages them to share their thoughts on the book. After reading the book, she delivers to her students a Found Poem related to the story, refraining from using the term “Found Poetry”. She invites her students to share their comments on the poem, while she leads them to discover the similarities between the book and the poem.
